Marriage Counseling
At Mount Tabor Counseling, we provide internationally recognized and evidence-based therapies, including Gottman Method Couples Therapy (GMCT). Our team consists of multiple therapists who are trained in the Gottman method.
GMCT is built upon 40 years of research conducted by clinical psychologist Dr. John Gottman at the Gottman Institute in Seattle, Washington, USA. The primary objective of GMCT is to help couples recognize negative behaviors within their relationship that contribute to breakdowns. Through clinical treatment, couples learn empirically researched and tested skills to effectively address these challenges.

Our Treatment Approach
Assessment Phase
The Assessment is a comprehensive evaluation designed to ensure that your therapist has a clear understanding of your unique circumstances and individual needs.
It includes:
- Completion of a joint and two individual sessions with your therapist.
- Completion of a questionnaires/assessments completed online.
- A feedback and recommendation session with your Therapist.
Treatment Phase
If you decide to move forward with therapy, you have the option of either ongoing Standard Couples Therapy sessions or Intensive Marathon Therapy sessions.
ONGOING STANDARD THERAPY
If you choose Standard Couples Therapy, your treatment will involve regular 1 hour to 90 Minute appointments with your Therapist. Research indicates that, on average, a minimum of 17 hours of therapy (excluding the initial assessment phase) is often necessary to address the fundamental aspects of treatment effectively.
MARATHON COUPLES THERAPY
Marathon Therapy is a successful approach to therapy that involves two consecutive days of couples therapy. During these sessions, the primary focus will be helping couples make significant progress in addressing their persistent areas of conflict. This intensive process aims to facilitate healing from past emotional wounds and de-escalate conflicts, paving the way for rebuilding trust, connection, and intimacy within the relationship.
Maintenance Phase
At this point, you will have acquired new strategies for addressing your relationship challenges and have insights on how to further enhance your relationship. Research suggests that follow-up appointments every two weeks initially, and then transitioning to monthly sessions, can be beneficial for maintaining the progress achieved during treatment.
During the maintenance phase, the frequency of appointments will be tailored to your specific needs, ranging from biweekly to monthly, and eventually transitioning to appointments every few months. This approach ensures that you receive ongoing support and guidance based on your individual requirements.
